Xbox controller on windows 7 professional?

This should be absolutely fine your Windows PC should pick up and install the correct drivers for this without a problem.

Also you can download the drivers/software from here
Software Downloads: Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

I myself use an unofficial Gaming receiver found here:

Which I installed simply by going to my device manager and telling my computer that there was an Xbox 360 gaming receiver plugged into a certain port (assigned the drivers) and I'm still using the Microsoft Controller software that shows battery life etc.
